Three people were killed and 20 others injured in a suicide attack on an Army vehicle in Waziristan area of Pakistan. Several videos and images of the incident are going viral on social media.
In this context, an image showing what appears to be remains of a massive explosion onboard a vehicle, is going viral on social media with users claiming it to be from a recent suicide attack on Army vehicle in Waziristan.
A twitter user Innocent Daar Ji has shared the image with the caption ‘Another fidayeen attack on #PakistanArmy in north #Waziristan, multiple deaths and injury reported’.
Several other twitter users have shared the same image claiming it to be from the recent suicide attack on Army vehicle in Waziristan.
The image is also being shared on facebook with the same claim.
Several media outlets have also carried the same image claiming it to be from the recent bomb blast on an Army vehicle in Waziristan.
Fact Check/ Verification
To ascertain the facts, Newschecker conducted a reverse image search of the viral image on Google and found several reports carrying the viral image.
A report published by Wall Street Journal dated May 27, 2009 under the title ‘Bomb Blast Rips Through Lahore’ carrying the same image with several other images of the blast.
“Pakistani policemen and rescuers searched for victims in the rubble of a destroyed police building. A car carrying several gunmen pulled up on a street between offices of the emergency police and the Inter-Services Intelligence agency, Pakistan’s premier spy organization”, caption on the image reads.
We also found a report dated May 27, 2009 on startfor.com website carrying the same image. The report claimed that the attack could have been deadlier, had attackers succeeded in reaching their target.

Conclusion
Thus, we conclude that that the viral image is actually from 2009 Lahore blast not from the recent suicide attack on an Army vehicle in Waziristan.
