Fact
The scenes portray Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s attendance at an official dinner, hosted by Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of her reign.

A viral video featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to a royal family, has generated significant attention on social media. Some users are claiming that this marks the inaugural occasion on which the Prime Minister of India has received an invitation to a banquet hosted by the Queen of the United Kingdom. It also claims that this is  for the first time in history an Indian Prime Minister has been invited to the royal palace of Britain.

The viral post wrote, “While the Congressmen are always playing the trumpet of the Nehru and Gandhi family. Fact Check/Verification

In order to ascertain the fact of the viral video, we conducted a Google reverse image and keyword search. During this process, we came across several media reports that were shared on May 4, 2022 which indicated that on the second day of PM Narendra Modi’s Europe visit, he received a cordial reception from Queen Margrethe II of the Kingdom of Denmark at the iconic Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen.

On performing the reverse image search on the video’s keyframe, we found video news reports by ANI, CNN-News18 & Hindustan Times, from May 4, 2022. As per these news outlets the video shows PM Modi meeting with the Queen of Denmark Margrethe II in Copenhagen. We found that the videos appearing on the news reports are the same as the viral video.

We also found several photos of the visit posted by the X handle of PM Modi on May 4, 2022 and captioned as, “Met Her Majesty, the Queen of the Kingdom of Denmark, Margrethe II in Copenhagen,”

X handle of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting have posted the photos and wrote, “Prime Minister @narendramodi met Her Majesty, the Queen of the Kingdom of Denmark, Margrethe II in Copenhagen.”

We found many news clips on PM Modi’s visit to Europe on 4th May 2022. Which can be seen here, here and here.

Even Press Information of India had uploaded a press note on the same event. The same news was published by the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark. The news can be seen here.

However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the UK in 2015, and that news can be viewed on the official website of the Press Information Bureau.

When we Google search for “First Indian Prime minister at Buckingham Palace”, we see many photos. Here we see that this isn’t the inaugural instance of a British monarch hosting an Indian Prime Minister. In 1969, Queen Elizabeth welcomed Indira Gandhi at Buckingham Palace during her tenure as Prime Minister.

On the same search, we found that Jawaharlal Nehru, was the first Prime Minister to visit Denmark. The photograph of the visit can be seen here.

Conclusion

The viral video depicts Prime Minister Modi being hosted by the Queen of Denmark, not by the Queen of UK at her Royal Palace. Additionally, the assertion that Prime Minister Modi is the sole Indian Prime Minister to be hosted exclusively by the Queen of the United Kingdom is inaccurate, as Indira Gandhi was also hosted by Queen Elizabeth during her prime ministership in 1969.
