From the ongoing spat between India and Canada over the Khalistan movement to the Asian Games, social media saw a wave of false claims in the past week, including a viral video, purportedly showing Dadasaheb Phalke Award recipient Waheeda Rehman dancing to an old Bollywood hit. Fake Notice In The Name Of Golden Temple Condemning ‘Anti-India’ Movement Goes Viral

A notice, purportedly from the Golden Temple, Amritsar, went viral on social media, amid the escalating tensions between Indian and Canada owing to the Khalistan issue, particularly among a slice of the Sikh diaspora in Canada. Newschecker found that no such notice was issued, while the governing body of all gurudwaras dismissed it as fake.

Jyothi Yarraji Hasn’t Won Gold In The Asian Games 2023 Yet, Viral Video Is From Asian Athletics Championship

The 19th Asian Games that began on September 23, is underway in Hangzhou, China, and will continue until October 8. In this context, many users shared  a video on social media congratulating Indian athlete Jyoti Yarraji for winning a gold medal in the women’s 100m hurdles at the competition. However, Newschecker found this information to be false as the video was of Yarraji at the Asian Athletics Championships in Bangkok, Thailand, when she became the first Indian woman to ever win gold in the 100-m hurdles, which was held in July 2023.

Viral Video Does Not Show Waheeda Rehman Dancing To Old Bollywood Hit

Several social media users circulated a video of an elderly woman dancing to an old Bollywood song ‘Aaj Phir Jeene ka Tamanna Hai’, claiming it to show veteran actor Waheeda Rehman, while applauding her grace and elegance at the age of 85. Newschecker learnt that it was a case of mistaken identity as the video shows Sunila Ashok, a retired teacher.

Old Video Of Khalistan Supporters Insulting Indian Flag Goes Viral

Several social media users are sharing a video, purportedly showing Khalistan supporters disrespecting the Indian tricolour during a protest in Canada, amid the current diplomatic row between the two countries. Newschecker found that it was an old video of Khalistan supporters disrespecting the national flag during a protest, most likely in Toronto, Canada.

Is Kapil Dev ‘Kidnapped’? No, Viral Video Is A BTS Clip Of An Ad Film On ICC Cricket World Cup 2023

The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 is set to kick off in India this October. However, a viral video on social media suggested that former India captain Kapil Dev may have been kidnapped. The footage shows him being forcefully taken by two individuals, with his mouth gagged and hands tied behind his back. Newschecker learnt that it was a behind-the-scenes clip of a shoot for an advertisement film by Disney Hotstar for the World Cup.
