Claim

Large crowds gather for Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Nagaland, shared by several Congress-linked Twitter handles.

The Congress had on January 14, 2024, started its second Bharat Jodo Yatra, a year after the first one, with the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’. The 66-day, 6,700-km march began from Manipur in northeastern India and it will end in Maharashtra.

Fact

Newschecker ran a reverse image search of keyframes of the first part of the video that runs for six seconds, which led us to this Instagram video, dated June 21, 2023, taken by a travel photographer, Rahul Nair, showing the 2023 Jagannath Rath Yatra in Puri, Odisha.

A comparison of screengrabs of the viral (left) and Instagram (right) videos prove that it is the same clip.

A further comparison of the shops seen in the video with a Google Maps image of the area, which was traced to M-Bazaar, Puri Grand Road, confirms it is the same place. We learnt that the Puri Rath Yatra 2023 was celebrated from June 20, which proves the visuals claimed to be of Gandhi’s Nyay Yatra are actually from the Puri Rath Yatra last year. We could not independently verify the remaining parts of the Nyay Yatra video.

We reached out to the photographer, Rahul Nair, who confirmed that the video was shot on June 20, 2023, at Puri, Odisha, during the Rath Yatra.

UPDATE: This article was updated on 25/01/2024 to include the response from Rahul Nair.
