Claim
Police officer confronts mob in Haldwani.

Fact
Video is of unrelated incident from Damoh, Madhya Pradesh.

Amid the violent clashes that broke out in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, on February 8, during the demolition of a madrasa and mosque in an anti-encroachment drive, resulting in the deaths of at least six, a video, purportedly from Haldwani, has gone viral showing a police officer standing his ground against an aggressive mob.

Newschecker found the claim to be untrue. The viral video is actually from a police station in Damoh, Madhya Pradesh, where a crowd was demanding action in a local dispute. Newschecker had already debunked the same video on February 6, 2024, when it went viral with the false claim that a Muslim mob attacked a police station and assaulted officers for taking action against cow smugglers. Damoh’s superintendent of police (SP) confirmed to us that there was no cow-slaughter or cow-smuggling angle to the viral claim. Read our full fact-check here.
