India-Pakistan Ceasefire: Videos Claiming To Show PM Modi, Amit Shah And S Jaishankar Apologising Are AI-Generated

Claim
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah and external affairs minister S Jaishankar apologise in separate video addresses to the nation and request for forgiveness after the recent military escalations with Pakistan, allegedly admitting that they “lost the battle” to Pakistan.
The archived versions of the posts can be seen here, here and here, clocking close to 500,000 views so far.

India and Pakistan on Saturday had agreed to a halt in fighting after four days of back-and-forth military strikes, including drone incursions, and artillery battles across the Line of Control (LoC), however, hours later, Pakistani drones were sighted and intercepted in various locations in Jammu and Kashmir, including Srinagar, and parts of Gujarat.
Fact
Newschecker noticed the overly glossy texture of the videos, along with the unnatural lip movements that were not completely in synchronisation with the speech, indicating that the videos were AI-generated. Moreover, we did not find any official records nor news reports on the alleged video statements.

We ran the video past Hive Moderation, an AI-content detection tool, which said the video was 99.7% likely to contain AI-generated or deepfake content. We then ran the audio past ElevenLabs, a voice AI research and deployment company, which said there was a 98% probability that the voice was generated with ElevenLabs.

PIB Fact Check, too, took to X to debunk the viral video of Jaishankar, saying the video is AI-generated and part of false propaganda.
UPDATE ON 16/05/2025: Another video allegedly showing Prime Minister Narendra Modi apologising to the nation and requesting forgiveness for the recent conflict with Pakistan has surfaced online. We checked the video and found it to be a deepfake.
