Congress MP Shashi Tharoor Shares A Photo of Jawaharlal Nehru’s Russia Visit As USA

Claim

In 1954 Jawaharlal Nehru & Indira Gandhi visited the United States of America to a rousing reception

Verification

Congress’ senior leader and Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor shared a very old picture of former PM Jawaharlal Nehru, claiming that without any PR campaign or NRI crowd management or even hyped-up media publicity, Americans in huge numbers welcomed Nehru & Indira Gandhi.

The tweet has more than 29.1 k likes, 5.8k shares & 11.9k replies. While reading this thread we found a comment saying this image was taken in Russia in 1956.

Putting this image on Google Reverse Image Search, we found the same picture on different websites. All of them mentioned that the image was taken in Moscow in the year 1956.

To be sure about the year of the Image we again did a research and found out that this image is from Nehru’s state visit to the USSR in 1955. Indira Gandhi had accompanied her father at the time. The two had visited Magnitogorsk, an industrial city in Chelyabinsk Oblast, Russia.

After getting trolled on social media, Shashi Tharoor accepted his mistake and added a comment.
