An audio clip claiming to be that of Padma Bhushan awardee Dr. Devi Shetty giving information and advice on #coronavirus is going viral on WhatsApp and many social media platforms.

Fact Check/Verification

We received the viral audio clip on our official fact-checking number and as we began fact-checking the viral claim, we reached out to Dr. Shetty’s son, Dr. Anesh Shetty. Dr. Shetty informed us that the viral audio clip is not of Dr. Devi Shetty. “The recording doing the rounds is not from Dr. Devi Shetty from Narayana Health. No such statement or assertion has been made by him” he said to newschecker.in.

We also found a comment from Narayana Health on Facebook where they have publicly stated that the audio clip is not of Dr. Devi Shetty. A screengrab of the said comment can be viewed below.

As we searched for more information on the viral audio clip, we found a tweet by the Editor-In-Chief Dhanya Rajendran where Dr. Devi Shetty’s office has informed her that the viral audio clip is not of Dr. Devi Shetty.

We also found several Twitter replies by the official handle of Narayana Health repeating the aforementioned information.

Conclusion

Hence from the testimony of Dr. Devi Shetty’s son Dr. Anesh Shetty and the findings of our fact-check, it is evident that the viral clip does not belong to Dr. Devi Shetty of Narayana Health and hence the claim is ‘Fake’.

Result: False
