In the aftermath of the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, where 9 people, including 4 farmers were killed after a car ran over them, a video showing a group of men tearing the Indian national flag and desecrating it is being widely shared on social media platforms. The claim: those behind the act are farmers participating in the ongoing protests in the country. But a fact check by Newschecker revealed that the protesters are not Indian farmers, but Sikh protesters demonstrating in New York outside the UN during PM Modi’s speech.

While shocking videos emerged out of Chhattisgarh’s Kawardha following communal clashes in the city, many videos claiming to be from the violence hit town that surfaced online have proved to be fake. One such video claims to show Bajrang Dal activists travelling from Bilaspur to Kawardha in the wake of the violence. A fact check by Newschecker has found it to be a recent video from Punjab.

BBC, WHO Chief Tag Fake Profile Impersonating Nobel Prize Winner
The BBC News Africa, Director General of World Health Organisation and The Africa Report were among prominent handles on Twitter that tagged a fake profile that was impersonating Abdulrazak Gurnah, the winner of Nobel Prize for literature this year. Twitter users pointed out that the profile that was being tagged to congratulate the Tanzanian author went by the handle @ErnauxA before it was changed to impersonate Gurnah.
