Twitter users have claimed that farmers want article 370 and 35A to be restored in Kashmir. This claim has been shared with an image of a group of men holding a poster which reads, “Restore Article 370, 35A”.
The image and related claims have been shared in light of the ongoing farmers’ protest against the Centre’s new agricultural laws in Delhi.
The viral claim reads, Farmers want article 370 and 35A to restored in Kashmir! #FarmerProtestHijacked”
Some users have gone on to say, “What kind of farmers are these? Who call @ImranKhanPTI as their brother, refuse to say Bharat Mata Ki Jai and want to restore article 370?”
Fact Check/ Verification
Earlier done in our Punjabi fact check, we began with a Google reverse image of the photograph in context, but it didn’t prove useful.
Next, we did a relevant keyword search and came across the viral image on a Facebook account named “Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar.”
The same image was uploaded on the Facebook account on 8 August, 2019. The same people can be seen in the viral image and the Facebook post. Additionally, a yellow coloured tower as well as a billboard can be seen in both.
This post came after the PM Modi-led government abolished decades-old law that gave some measure of autonomy to the disputed region of Kashmir last year.
Conclusion
The photograph being shared amid ongoing farmers’ protests in Delhi is misleading since its context has been misplaced. The viral image was originally posted in 2019.
Result: Misplaced Context
