Fact
Newschecker first ran a keyword search for “Saudi Arabia football promises Bugatti”, which did not throw up any relevant news reports.
On closely analysing the viral video, we noticed that the video seemed like it was dubbed over and so we ran a reverse image search of keyframes, which led us to this Youtube video, dated October 24, 2022, uploaded by Al Arabiya English.
According to the video’s description, “Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman meets with the Saudi soccer team, giving them encouragement ahead of their participation in FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.” We can see that in the video the crown prince is giving his best wishes to the team ahead of their “tough” group matches, while encouraging them to play without any pressure and enjoy all their three games. There are no promises nor threats from Mohammed bin Salman in this video, confirming that the viral video is doctored.
A relevant keyword search led us to multiple news reports on this meeting, which can be seen here, here and here.
Result: Altered video
