2022 Video Of Dog Mauling A Child In Thailand Falsely Shared As Delhi

Claim

Video claiming to show a dog mauling a child in Rohini, Delhi.

The archived version of the post can be seen here, which has gone viral amid reports, seen here and here,  of a sharp rise in dog-bite incidents across India.

Fact

Newschecker did not find any credible news reports about a dog attacking a child in Rohini, raising our doubts on the viral video.

We then ran a reverse image search, which led us to the same video uploaded as part of a news report by Thailand-based Amarin TV on June 22, 2022. “Pitbull drags foreign child by the neck…” read the description, translated from Thai.

A relevant keyword search led us to multiple news reports from June 2022, seen here, here and here, stating that a two-year-old child, out for a walk with his nanny and older brother, was brutally attacked by a large, unleashed, and unsecured house dog in South Pattaya.

“The incident took place in a village in South Pattaya on Monday, June 20th, 2022, at 4:00 P.M. The incident came to the attention of the press the day after, yesterday, June 21st, after CCTV of the vicious attack was shared on social media and local Pattaya News reporters spoke with parties involved,” read a report by The Pattaya News, dated June 22, 2022, sharing a screengrab of the viral video.

“A young female nanny brought two young foreign children for a walk in the village, when they arrived in front of the house where the incident occurred. The Thai female homeowner opened the door to take out the trash, but did not tie up the dog, which immediately lunged at the two-year-old foreign boy…, “ read a Thai report by The Daily News, dated June 21, 2022, adding that the child was immediately taken to hospital, undergoing close to 200 stitches. According to the reports, the boy was safe and out of danger.
