Fact

Newschecker ran a reverse image search of keyframes, which led us to this report by Prothom Alo, a leading Bangla daily based out of Dhaka, uploaded on Youtube on June 3, 2022, stating that two women were assaulted in Banshbaria, Sitakunda, in Bangladesh’s Chittagong district, and are undergoing treatment in hospital.

A relevant keyword search led us to this Bangla news report, dated June 3, 2022, stating that the accused were Touhidul Islam and Alamgir Hossain, who attacked the three housewives — Rani Das (30), wife of Yogendra Das, Anjana Rani Das (32), wife of Milan Chandra Das and Reema Rani Das (27), wife of Krishna Chandra Das, following which Reema Rani Das filed a complaint and one person was arrested. According to the report, the accused, who were the sons of an influential man in the area, Aminul Haque, assaulted the women over a plot of land they were looking to grab.

We also came across this June 3, 2022 news report by Khoborbangla24.net, stating that it was a land  dispute, while sharing a copy of a cross-complaint filed by Touhidul against the Das family, alleging they had forcibly occupied his property and also threatened his family. These reports further confirmed that the video was not from the recent unrest and violence against minorities in the country and even predated the student-led movement that ousted former Bangladeshi PM Sheikh Hasina in August 2024.
