2022 Video Of Judge Slamming Police Officer Linked To Sharmishta Panoli Case

A video from a court room shows a judge slamming a police officer for arresting influencer Sharmishta Panoli.

A reverse image search on the keyframes of the viral clip led us to a Facebook post by Briefly (@brieflybynewj), dated December 7, 2022. Carrying a snippet from the video, it stated, “A video of a judge from Patna High Court has gone viral after he harshly criticized the Bihar Police officials over misusing of their power.” The post identified the Patna HC Judge as Justice Rajeev Ranjan Prasad. Notably, Justice Prasad is heard  mentioning a “lady doctor”, in the video featured in the Facebook post.

Taking a clue, we looked up keywords “Patna HC,” “Justice Prasad,” “police” and “female doctor” on Google which led us to the Indian Kanoon website displaying the proceedings in the Patna HC in “Nibha Sinha vs The State Of Bihar Through The Principal” case on 30 November, 2022. 

We then skimmed through the proceedings of the Patna HC live streamed on its official YouTube channel on November 30, 2022, and were able to spot the same video of the Judge reprimanding the same police officer around 4:47:33 hours in the video. 

Influencer Sharmishta Panoli Gets Bail

The Calcutta High Court on Thursday (June 5, 2025) granted bail to influencer Sharmishta Panoli in the hate speech case. The vacation bench of Justice Raja Basu Chowdhury of the Calcutta High Court granted her bail for a bond of ₹10,000. She was released from the Alipore jail on June 6.

Hence, we find that a 2022 video has been shared to falsely show a judge slamming a police officer for arresting influencer Sharmishta Panoli.
