Claim

Video shows the opening of the gates of the Dumbur dam in Tripura, which allegedly caused the flooding of districts on the eastern borders of Bangladesh.

Fact

Newschecker ran a reverse image search on the keyframes of the viral video, which led us to this Youtube video uploaded on August 6, 202, headlined, “Srisailam dam view 10 gates open”.  A similar video can be seen here.

We learnt that the Srisailam Dam is constructed across the Krishna River on the border of Mahabubnagar District, Telangana and Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh near Srisailam temple town and is the second largest hydroelectric station in the country.

A relevant keyword search led us to this Siasat Daily tweet, July 29, 2024, stating that due to heavy inflows, three crest gates of Srisailam dam were lifted to release water into Nagarjunasagar.

Similarly, photos across travel websites and news reports, seen here and here, prove that the dam seen in the video is indeed the Srisailam dam. A look at the photos of the Dumbur hydroelectric project also prove that it is not the same dam.
