CCTV Footage Shows Illegal Bangladeshi Immigrant Removing A Manhole Cover? Know The Truth

A 36-second purported CCTV footage of a man removing a manhole cover is being shared on social media with the claim that the accused is Sheikh Nazrul, an illegal Bangladeshi immigrant.

Sharing the video on X handle, one user wrote, “Look at this incident: Sheikh Nazrul, an illegal Bangladeshi immigrant, was arrested with the help of CCTV footage. Think about why he might have done this?”

Evidence

• We conducted a reverse image search using keyframes from the viral video and found a longer version of the video, posted on August 28, 2025, from a Facebook account.

• The date of this video, containing CCTV footage, was recorded as August 26, 2025, and its location was mentioned as Aram Nagar-1, Andheri West, Mumbai, in the caption.

• Additionally, we found a longer version of the same video uploaded to an X account on August 28, 2025. The caption accompanying this video also described it as a scene from Aram Nagar-1. Other posts from this account, including the video, tagged the Mumbai Police, BMC, and Versova Police, demanding action.

• After that, Newschecker contacted the Versova police station directly. Senior police inspector Deepshikha Ware told us that they had arrested a man named Amarjeet Kamati on August 29 in connection with the incident. She also clarified that Kamati lives in Mumbai and is not a Bangladeshi.

• Meanwhile, we found an FIR filed in this regard on August 28, 2025, on the Mumbai Police website. This FIR was filed by BMC engineer Vicky Shyamlal Sharma. In the FIR, he stated that while inspecting road works, he discovered five municipally owned manhole covers missing nearJP Road in Andheri West.

• We then contacted BMC roads department engineer Vicky Shyamlal Sharma, who told us that on August 28, he had found some manhole covers missing near JP Road, following which he had lodged a complaint at the Versova police station.

Verdict

Thus, it is clear that the viral claim is false. The incident was not carried out by an illegal Bangladeshi immigrant, Sheikh Nazrul, but by Amarjeet Kamati, a resident of Mumbai.
