Newschecker ran a keyword search for “Astronomer CEO apology letter,” which led us to multiple news reports, seen here, here and here, calling out the viral apology letter as fake.
The reports led us to an article by Men’s Journal, dated July 17, 2025, saying Astronomer, a technology company that focuses on mission-critical analytics, AI and software, had responded to debunk the false statement circulating online and attributed to Byron. “This is not a real statement,” Taylor Jones of Astronomer, responded to an email from Men’s Journal, inquiring whether the statement was legitimate.
According to the reports, the false statement was attributed to an X page called “Peter Enis”, who claimed to be associated with CBS News, even though it was labelled a “parody” page. At the time of publishing this article, the account was still suspended by X. Also, a search on the CBS News website did not lead us to any such person working with the network.
“Mr Enis’ page is labelled as a parody account, with his bio indicating the ‘journalist’s’ name is meant to be a phallic pun. After causing mass confusion among social media users and media outlets, the account posted a follow-up statement confirming the statement was not real and had indeed been fabricated by him. ‘Well guys, I’ve been caught — the report is fake,’ he said once the statement was confirmed to be fake,” read The Nightly’s report, dated July 18, 2025, while sharing a screengrab of the X page.
Another post on X, which reportedly shared a purported statement from Astronomer’s CEO apologizing to “my family, my wife and our wonderful employees,” has also been called out as fake. The latest post on Astronomer’s X account is on July 15, a couple of days before the incident, further confirming the viral post to be fake.
A July 18, 2025 fact-check report by Khaleej Times debunking both the statements can be seen here.
