The archived version of the tweet can be seen here. We received this claim on our Whatsapp tipline (9999499044), too, requesting us to fact-check it.

Fact

Newschecker first ran a keyword search for “Ram Navami mutton Eknath Shinde”, which did not throw up any credible news reports of such an incident. We then ran a reverse image search of keyframes of the video, which led us to this Instagram post by food and lifestyle content platform Curly Tales, dated April 18, 2024.

“On the auspicious day of Ram Navami, I [host Kamiya Jani] enjoyed a very hearty veg saoji meal with Maharashtra’s CM Shri Eknath Shinde in Umred, Maharashtra. Local women of the village prepared a very special veg saoji meal for us and it was super delicious,” read the post to the trailer of the interview, set to be uploaded on Youtube soon.

When asked about the names of the dishes, Shinde can be heard naming vegetarian food items. There was no mention of any mutton or non-vegetarian dish, which confirms that the viral claim is false.
