Video Claiming To Show Team India’s Grand Welcome At Dubai Hotel After Champions Trophy Win Is Old

A 1-minute 59-second video, purportedly showing hotel staff giving a grand reception to the Indian men’s cricket team, has gone viral across social media platforms, claiming that it happened at the Taj Dubai after the team won the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy by defeating New Zealand in the final on March 9 (Sunday).  

Several leading media outlets, including Mint, News18, Times of India and Dainik Jagran, too, shared the video in their post-match coverage.

Fact Check

Newschecker ran a reverse image search of keyframes, which led us to the same video shared on Instagram by a user, Beena Ashar, on March 2, 2025, a week before the Champions Trophy final on March 9. Ashar shared it on her Facebook page, too, on March 2, 2025.

We learnt that India faced New Zealand in a Champions Trophy group-stage match in Dubai on March 2, 2025, which the former won by 44 runs, indicating that the video most likely shows the celebrations after the March 2 match.

Although Newschecker could not yet independently verify the location and date of the video, we can confirm that the viral video is not from March 9 after India won the Champions Trophy. We have reached out to the user who posted the video on March 2 and will update the copy once we receive a response.
