A keyword search for “N Chandrasekaran,” “arrested” and “Air India plane crash” on Google did not yield any credible report on the alleged arrest of the Tata Sons chairman following the tragic aircraft crash in Ahmedabad.
We then scanned through the official X handles of the DGP Gujarat, Gujarat Police, and Ahmedabad Police, which did not carry any such information about the same. The social media profiles affiliated to the Tata Group and Air India, too, did not reveal any details/statement on the alleged arrest of Chandrasekaran.
Newschecker then reached out to Jaipal Singh Rathore, Additional Commissioner of Police, Sector-2, Ahmedabad City, who clarified that the claim is false, and that Chandrasekaran has not been arrested.
Notably, a recent report by The Economic Times stated that Chandrasekaran has stepped in to manage the day-to-day operations at Air India, and is currently overseeing critical areas such as sensitive government interactions, safety reviews, flight maintenance, and employee morale, all amid intense public scrutiny. It quoted a group official as saying, “Air India is the top priority right now,” and that the chairman is now largely operating out of the airline’s headquarters.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has reportedly directed Air India to remove three officials, including the Divisional Vice President of Integrated Operations Control Centre, from their roles and responsibilities for “systemic failures” and “multiple violations” in flight crew scheduling.
The aviation watchdog has ordered an internal disciplinary proceedings against these officials without delay, adding that the outcome of the same should be reported within 10 days.
It has also warned the air carrier that future violations in crew scheduling will invite “strict action”, including licence suspension and operational restrictions.
An Air India spokesperson said that they “acknowledge the regulator’s directive and have implemented the order. “ Adding, “In the interim, the company’s Chief Operations Officer will provide direct oversight to the Integrated Operations Control Centre (IOCC). Air India is committed to ensuring total adherence to safety protocols and standard practices.”
Newschecker is trying to contact Air India for their comments, and the copy will be updated upon receiving the same.

However, with the available evidence, we find that the viral post claiming that Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran has been arrested after an Air India plane crashed in Ahmedabad is fabricated.
