Fact
Video 1
Newschecker ran a reverse image search of keyframes, which led us to the same video uploaded on Instagram on September 8, 2024, well before the ongoing flood situation in Assam. The caption states the video is from July 9, 2023, with the hashtags #Sainj #valley.
The same video was uploaded on Youtube on September 9, 2024, with the description using the hashtags # #sainjvalley #himachal pradesh#flood, along with the same date, “09/07/2023”.
A relevant keyword search led us to this Indian Express report, dated July 14, 2023, on the devastation caused by the gushing water in Sainj valley of Kullu in Himachal Pradesh. “Sainj, with a total population of around 34,000 people, saw its local market with 200 shops devastated. Of the 200 shops in the markets — including those that were eating joints sold readymade clothes, gifts or stuff of daily needs — nearly 43 were flattened by the floodwater,” read the report, which added that a video of a flooding incident from July 9 had gone viral showing uprooted trees and silted flood water swallowing everything in its path as it cut through a market. A similar report by The Tribune dated July 12, 2023, stated that as many as 40 shops and 30 houses were washed away because of flooding by the Sainj river.
Although we could not yet independently verify the location of the video, we can confirm that it predates the 2025 Assam floods.
Video 2
Newschecker noticed that one of the train coaches carried the acronym “CR”, which stands for Central Railway that operates the suburban railway system in Mumbai. Also, we learnt that the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) operates trains in Guwahati, contradicting the viral claim that the video is from Guwahati railway station.
We then ran a reverse image search of keyframes, which led us to the same video on Youtube, dated May 27, 2025, headlined “Mumbai ki Baarish”, while the text on the video reads, “Masjid Mumbai”.
A relevant keyword search led us to multiple news reports, seen here and here, stating that hours of incessant rainfall caused waterlogging in several low-lying areas of Mumbai and on railway tracks on May 26, 2025, especially at Masjid, Byculla, Dadar, Matunga and Badlapur railway stations.
We also came across this Pune Mirror post on X, dated May 26, 2025, stating that flooding has turned Masjid Bandar station into a stream. We further noticed a board in the background of the viral video reading, “Masjid”, indicating the station’s name and further confirming that the viral claim was false.
