Old Video From Nagaland Shared As Foreign Journo ‘Starstruck’ By Shashi Tharoor

Video shows a “starstruck” foreign journalist complimenting Congress MP Shashi Tharoor during India’s recent global outreach programme following Operation Sindoor. In the video, the woman is seen asking Tharoor to explain how he could be “astonishingly good looking and charismatic and even more implausibly brilliant and intelligent at the same time.”

We looked up keywords “Shashi Tharoor,” “biggest fan” and “choose your parents wisely” – an excerpt from his comments- on Google which led us to a YouTube video by The Lungleng Show, dated March 5, 2023. Carrying the now viral clip, it stated, “Tharoor’s Epic Reply to a Biggest Fan Girl in Nagaland.” 

Notably, the watermark of the show ‘The LS’ is also seen in the top left corner of the viral clip allegedly showing a foreign journalist praising Tharoor during that recent global outreach event. 

Further, we found that the full video of the event showing the MP’s interaction with the youth of Nagaland during his 2023 visit was also shared on the YouTube channel on February 24, 2023. Tharoor was in Nagaland to campaign for the state assembly elections. 

The same video was also uploaded on the official YouTube channel of Tharoor on February 28, 2023 with the title “Dr Shashi Tharoor Conversation with Nagaland Youth.”

The video had gone viral in 2023 as well, and was widely reported by media outlets such as this, this and this.

Hence, we could conclude that an old video from Nagaland has been falsely shared to show a foreign journalist complimenting Shashi Tharoor on his looks and intelligence.
