Fact Check
Video Of Amit Shah Saying That PoK Would Have Been With India If Ceasefire Was Deferred Is Old

Claim
Union Minister Amit Shah says that if ceasefire had been deferred by three days PoK would have been a part of India.
Fact
Video from 2023, where the Home Minister was speaking about Nehru during a Parliamentary discussion on the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill.
India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire on Saturday following days of intense military escalations. “The Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of Pakistan called the DGMO of India at 3:35 p.m. and agreed that both sides would stop all firing and military action on land, in the air and at sea, with effect from 5 p.m. today,” Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said on May 10.
Now, a video allegedly showing Union Home Minister Amit Shah saying that Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) would have been a part of India today if the ceasefire was deferred by three days is going viral online.
In the 29-second-long-video, Shah is purportedly heard saying, “…biggest mistake. When our Army was winning…ceasefire was declared and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir was born. Had the ceasefire been deferred by three days, Pakistan-occupied Kashmir would have been a part of India today…”
The video is being widely circulated across social media platforms. Newschecker, however, found the video to be old.

At the counters of 53:27 minute, we heard Shah saying, “Kashmir had to suffer because of the blunder that happened during Nehru’s time…Kashmir had to suffer for years because of two big mistakes committed during Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s tenure as the Prime Minister…First, when our Army was winning, on reaching the Punjab area ceasefire was announced. And Pakistan-occupied Kashmir was born. Had the ceasefire been deferred by three days, Pakistan-occupied Kashmir would have been a part of India…”

Multiple reports such as this, this and this, carried Shah’s controversial remarks on Nehru during a Parliamentary discussion on the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill in December 2023.
