A Google Lens search on the image led us to a post on the official X account of Annamalai (@annamalai_k), dated December 26, 2024. It featured a photo of Annamalai in the attire, and background identical to the one seen in the viral photo.
In the photo, the Tamil BJP Chief is seen holding a placard saying “#ShameOnYouStalin”, and not “Go Back Grok”.
After comparing the viral image with the photo posted on Annamalai’s official account, we could conclude that the former has been digitally edited. The hashtag “ShameOnYouStalin” has been edited out, and replaced with “Go Back Grok.”
The photo was also shared by Annamalai on his official Instagram account (@annamalai_kuppusamy) in December 2024.
A report by The New Indian Express, dated December 26, 2024 also featured the image of him holding a placard on Stalin, and stated, “BJP Tamil Nadu state president K Annamalai accused police of trying to shame the Anna University student, who was sexually assaulted, by revealing her identity in the FIR and leaking it in public domain…”
Hence, the viral photo of Annamalai holding ‘Go Back Grok’ placard was found to be digitally edited.
