A Google Lens search on the keyframes of the viral clip led us to a YouTube video by @DailypostTripura, dated April 14, 2025. It carried a longer version of the viral clip, stating, “Badruzzaman exchanges words with the Superintendent of Police (translated from Bengali via Google).” The post identified the location of the incident as “Kailashahar”, a town in Tripura.
A Facebook post by Agartala-based PB24 News, dated April 12, 2025, also featured the same clip with the caption, “Heated exchange of words between Superintendent of Police and District Congress President over the heated situation in Kailashahar (translated from Bengali via Google).”
Taking a clue, we looked up keywords “Kailashahar”, “ SP” and “Badruzzaman“ on Google which led us to a report by The Assam Tribune, dated April 12, 2025. It featured a photo showing the same individuals as seen in the viral clip and stated that a violent scuffle broke out between protestors, agitating against The Waqf Amendment Act, and police personnel on security duty in Kailashahar, the headquarters of Unakoti district.
“Several police officers, including SDPO Kailashahar Jayanta Karmakar and Inspector Jitendra Das, sustained injuries along with several constables, the police said. The rally was led by Congress leader Badruj Jaman (Badruzzaman), who also serves as the Chairperson of the local Panchayat Samiti,” the report added.

Carrying another image of the same police officer and leader, a Times of India report corroborated, “Tension prevailed in Kubjhar and a few neighbouring villages along the India-Bangladesh border in Kailashahar of Tripura’s Unakoti district on Saturday after a protest rally against the Waqf (Amendment) Act turned violent, leaving two policemen injured.”
Around 4,000 people under the banner of ‘Joint Movement Committee’, headed by Congress’ Unakoti district president Md Badruzzaman, took out a massive rally demanding the revocation of the Waqf (Amendment) Act in Tripura’s Unakoti district, as per a PTI report. The protest turned violent, and the police resorted to lathi-charge and burst tear gas shells to disperse the protesters.
“We have lodged an FIR over the attack on police personnel. So far, eight people have been arrested in connection with the case. Further investigation is underway,” Kailashahar police station officer-in-charge Sukanta Sen Chowdhury said.
