Claim

Pakistan’s caretaker PM, Anwar ul Haq Kakar, confirms the death of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim in a Karachi hospital owing to poisoning by “unknown men”.

The archived version of the tweet can be seen here. We received this claim on our Whatsapp tipline (9999499044), too, requesting us to fact-check it.

Fact

We learnt according to multiple media reports that fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim has reportedly been hospitalised in Pakistan’s Karachi although Pakistan has not officially confirmed it yet, raising our doubts about the viral screenshot purportedly of the Pakistan caretaker PM’s tweet.

We then looked up the official Twitter account of Anwaar ul Haq Kakar, where we did not find any tweet on December 18, as seen in the viral screenshot. His latest tweet was on December 16, expressing his condolences on the passing away of the emir of Kuwait.

Furthermore, we saw that his handle (right) reads @anwaar_kakar, while the one on the screenshot (left) reads @anwaar_kakkar, indicating that it was fabricated. The analytics tool, Social Blade, too, showed that no tweet was made on December 18 till the time this copy was published, confirming that the viral screenshot was fake.
