Fact
A Google lens search on the keyframes of the viral video yielded an Instagram post by @96croripanth, dated December 31, 2023. The post carried a shorter version of the viral footage, stating “Mahalla Sri Fatehgarr Sahib.”
We also found a YouTube video by AKAALI FOUJ DILLI, dated December 30, 2023, featuring the same visuals as seen in the viral footage.
Notably, the farmers’ ‘Delhi Chalo’ protest march was flagged off in the second week of February, after the deliberations between the farmer leaders and the centre did not reach a constructive resolution.
The farmers started their march on February 13 and some of their key demands include:
- An MSP guarantee
- Implementation of the Swaminathan Commission’s recommendations
- Pension for farmers and farm labourers
- Withdrawal of police cases registered during the 2020-21 protest
- Justice for the victims of the 2021 Lakhimpur Kheri violence
- Compensation for families of farmers who lost their lives during the 2020-21 agitation
- Waiver of farm loans
Newschecker has not been able to independently determine the location of the video and the purpose of the march. However, we found that the same video has been available online at least since December 2023. It predates the ongoing Delhi Chalo protest, which commenced on February 13, and therefore it can be concluded that this video is being shared out of context misleadingly.
