Newschecker ran a reverse image search of keyframes, which led us to a slightly longer version of the video shared on X, dated November 11, 2024. “Due to the swing malfunctioning, the girl’s hair got tangled in it and was ripped off her head,” read the post, translated from Hindi. Similar posts can be seen here and here, stating that the incident happened at a Diwali fair in Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh, where the 13-year-old girl sustained serious injuries and was taken to Lucknow for treatment.
A relevant keyword search led us to multiple news reports on the incident, seen here, here and here, stating that a horrifying accident at a local fair in Kannauj on Saturday left a teenage girl severely injured after her hair became entangled in a ferris wheel rod
“In a horrifying incident at a fair in Kannauj, a teenage girl’s hair became entangled in the roller of a swing, resulting in her entire scalp being ripped out. The chilling moment, captured on video, shows the girl’s hair and scalp hanging from the swing’s rod as bystanders rushed to stop the ferris wheel. The video of the incident went viral on social media on Monday, showing that the entire scalp had been torn off by the time the swing halted, leaving her in a critical condition,” read an NDTV report, dated November 11, 2024, adding that in a rush, the teenager’s family initially took her to a nearby private hospital in Gursahaiganj, however, as her condition worsened, she was transferred to PGI in Lucknow for further treatment.
We also came across an X post by Kannauj Police on November 11, 2024, in response to a post sharing the video, stating that the victim is undergoing treatment at Lucknow Medical College and a case has been registered at Talgram Police Station and legal proceedings are underway.
