Viral Whatsapp screenshot listing out the important dates for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
We received this ticket on our Whatsapp tipline (9999499044), requesting us to fact-check it.
Fact
Newschecker first ran a keyword search for “Lok Sabha election dates”, which did not throw up any news reports announcing the schedule, nor an official notification. We, however, came across multiple reports from major media outlets, seen here, here and here, quoting Election Commission sources, which stated that the poll body is likely to announce the dates for Lok Sabha elections after March 9-March 13.
We also looked up the Election Commission of India’s official website, where we did not find any press release or circular announcing the dates, thereby confirming that the viral screenshot is of a fake schedule.
