Another user tweeted this claim with the images in response to Rahul Gandhi’s 28 August tweet on the safety of NEET-JEE’s aspirants. Gandhi’s tweet reads: “NEET-JEE aspirants’ safety should not compromised due to the failures of the Govt. Govt must listen to all stakeholders and arrive at a consensus. #SpeakUpForStudentSafety”

Prashant Bhushan, the Supreme Court lawyer who has previously been under fire for sharing misleading claims also tweeted the claim in context.

Fact Check/ Verification

A reverse image search of the four photographs in the claim led us to their original sources. We debunk each photograph below.

The first photograph shows a few people walking in high levels of water up to their waist. One man is seen walking in water with a child on his shoulder in front of ML Convent School.

Patrika.com reported on schools being closed down due to heavy rains in Uttar Pradesh carrying the first photograph from the claim. According to the report, students and teachers who came in early to the Convent were later safely evacuated after heavy rains caused flooding in and around the school.

The second photograph from the claim was found on accuweather.com in an article published in 2017 titled, “Nearly 50 killed as monsoon rain inundates Mumbai to Karachi.” The photograph is credited to Rajanish Kakade from Associated Press with the following text: Commuters make their way through a waterlogged street following heavy rains in Mumbai, India, Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017. The third photograph shows a few people walking on a road with the water level up to their knees. One man is seen dragging his motorbike under a bridge on the same road.

We sourced this photograph to an August 2019 article published by Jagran.com which states that low-lying areas in Haridwar were clogged with water after rains last year.

The fourth photograph was also published by Jagran in July 2019 describing flooding in Patna due to heavy rains.

As per our research, we found the four photographs shared recently with claims related to exam centres to be misleading. The photographs in context are from different regions in India and were taken at least a year ago.
