Fact Check
An Indian immigrant trapped by the entry gate while trying to travel ticketless on the London Underground.
The archived version of the X post can be seen here.
Newschecker came across other posts, seen here and here, stating that the woman was a Pakistani immigrant, revealing the inconsistency in the claims.
We then ran a reverse image search of keyframes, which led us to this Spanish media report sharing a screenshot of the viral video, stating that it is from Bogotá, Colombia where a local commuter was trying to sneak through the barrier on a station on the TransMilenio — a bus rapid transit (BRT) system. A similar video can be seen here, dated January 17, 2024.
A further search led us to this Daily Mail report, dated January 24, 2024, sharing the video.
“…a woman got trapped while attempting to crawl under a glass entrance gate at a Transmilenio hub last week. The wild footage showed her struggling to advance forward because she had no interest in paying the 75 cent fare,” read the report, further confirming that the viral video does not show an Indian immigrant nor is it from London.
