Fact Check
Video from inside the Air India plane before the tragic crash in Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025.
Video from September 2024 showing scenes from an Algerian airlines plane that encountered a technical snag.
An Air India flight from Ahmedabad to London, with 242 passengers and crew aboard, crashed shortly after takeoff on (Thursday) June 12, 2025. Barring one passenger, all the people in the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft died in the crash, the airlines confirmed.
Now, a video claiming to show the scenes from the Air India aircraft before the crash has gone viral on social media. Newschecker, however, found the footage to be unrelated to the Ahmedabad plane crash.

On carefully analysing the video, we noticed that the interiors of the aircraft – showing blue covers of seats and a blue carpet on the aisle – were different from the usual Air India plane’s cabin, raising our doubts.
We then looked up the keyframes of the viral clip on Google Lens which led us to a Facebook post by Algeria-based El Hidhab TV, dated September 23, 2024. Carrying the same footage, it stated, “Watch the moment the Air Algérie plane returned to Houari Boumediene Airport due to a technical malfunction that occurred on the plane that was operating flight number AH3018 between Algiers and Istanbul (translated from Arabic via Google).”
Carrying a screengrab from the now viral clip, another Algeria-based outlet Echorouk stated, “On Monday, September 23, Air Algérie issued a statement clarifying the return of one of its planes, which had departed Houari Boumediene International Airport and was bound for Istanbul. The company reported a technical malfunction on the aircraft operating flight number AH3018, which took off from Algiers International Airport for Istanbul on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at 11:02 PM (translated from Arabic via Google).”
It also featured a Facebook post by Info Traffic Algeria , a news website dedicated to transportation and automotive in Algeria, carrying the same footage.
A report by Al Jazeera Arabic from September 25, 2024 stated, “Eyewitnesses documented scenes of panic among passengers of an Algerian plane, which was en route to the Turkish city of Istanbul, on Sunday, due to a technical malfunction, which forced the crew to make an emergency landing. Air Algérie announced, today, Monday, in a statement, the return of a plane heading to Istanbul to Algiers International Airport due to a technical malfunction, on Sunday, confirming that it had taken all measures to accompany passengers until a new flight is organised.” It featured similar visuals from inside the aircraft as seen in the viral clip.
Hence, the viral video claiming to show visuals from inside the Air India plane before the recent crash in Ahmedabad was found to be false.
