Claim

Video shows the US artistic swimming team performing its routine to the theme song from AR Rahman’s “Taal” at the ongoing 2024 Paris Olympics.

UPDATE ON 09/08/2024: The US women’s artistic swimming team’s performance at the Paris Olympics 2024, to the tunes of AR Rahman’s Taal Se Taal Mila and Beats of Passion from Subhash Ghai’s 1999 movie Taal, can be accessed here.

Fact

Newschecker noticed an advertising board behind the swimmers read, “World Aquatics Doha 2024”, raising our doubts.

We then ran a reverse image search of keyframes of the video, which led us to this CNBC-TV18 report, August 6, 2024, stating that the USA’s women’s artistic swimming team performed an extraordinary underwater sequence at the World Aquatics Doha 2024 in February 2024, to the tunes of AR Rahman’s music. We came across similar reports, seen here, here and here, reiterating that the performance was during the event, which was held between February 2-February 18, 2024.

A further search led us to this Youtube video, uploaded by World Aquatics on June 7, 2024, headlined, “Team Event: USA 🇺🇸 Returns to the Olympics I Artistic Swimming”. The viral routine can be seen from the 01:54 mark, further confirming that it is not from the Paris Olympics.
