Fact Check
The Rashtrapati Bhavan hosted a wedding for the first time in its history on February 12, 2025, according to various social media posts and reports by leading media outlets, including CNBC-TV18, India Today, The Mint, Deccan Herald, among others.
The couple, both officers in the CRPF, are reportedly to get married at the Mother Teresa Crown Complex in Rashtrapati Bhavan, in a small ceremony with a short and exclusive guest list. According to the reports, President Droupadi Murmu was highly impressed by the performance of CRPF officer, Poonam Gupta, who is currently posted as a personal security officer (PSO) of the President, and had thus arranged for the wedding ceremony to be conducted within the Rashtrapati Bhavan premises.

Newschecker looked up the official online Digital Photo Library of the Rashtrapati Bhavan and ran a search for wedding photos at the premises between January 1, 2015 (the earliest available date) to the current day. We came across four photo albums of separate wedding ceremonies and receptions at the President’s Estate, involving the families of the staff working for the President and Rashtrapati Bhavan, which were attended by former Presidents Ram Nath Kovind and Pranab Mukherjee.
We then ran a search for “Rashtrapati Bhavan first-ever wedding”, which led us to a February 12, 2025 clarification by the Press Information Bureau’s (PIB) fact-checking unit on X, stating that multiple media outlets incorrectly reported that the Rashtrapati Bhavan was hosting a wedding for the first time in its history. “This claim is fake. The President’s Estate has been the venue of several weddings since its inception,” the post stated.
The photos and the PIB post prove that although rare, there have been weddings at the Rashtrapati Bhavan and that they usually involve the families of high-ranking officials.
