Fact
To verify the authenticity of the viral claim, we conducted a Google search using relevant keywords such as “Bangladesh,” “closed airspace,” and “India,” but found no reports from any credible media sources.
During our search we were led to a report published in the Bangladeshi news outlet Dhaka Tribune (Archive Link) on May 8, 2025.
The report revealed that Biman Bangladesh Airlines, along with several other international carriers operating in South Asia, was experiencing operational challenges due to the ongoing airspace dispute between India and Pakistan. With Pakistan closing its airspace to Indian flights and India responding with similar restrictions, airlines were being forced to take longer alternative routes for flights departing from Dhaka and other airports in Bangladesh to destinations such as London, Rome, Istanbul, and Toronto. The rerouting has led to extended flight durations and a significant increase in fuel costs, the report revealed.

Other international and Bangladeshi news outlets like Al Jazeera & The Daily Star, also published such news.
However, we found no reports or official notice on the website of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh indicating that Bangladesh has closed its airspace to Indian aircraft.
We then reviewed the current flight operations between India and Bangladesh and were able to see that many flights were scheduled to travel between the two countries.

Newschecker then reached out to Foyez Ahmed, Senior Assistant Press Secretary of the Bangladesh Government. He dismissed the claim as false.
Thus, it is clear that the claim circulating on social media that Bangladesh has closed its airspace to India is False.
