Claim: TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar scolded Union Home Minister Amit Shah, pointing the finger at him and declaring, ” You do not know anything, you Sit down!”
Fact: The two separate videos have been merged together to create a false narrative.
A video is making rounds on social media purportedly showing a heated moment in the Parliament, when TMC MP Kakali Ghosh Dastidar confronted Union Home Minister Amit Shah, pointing the finger at him and scolding, “You do not know anything, you sit down!”
Posting that video on Facebook, a user wrote in Hindi, “We strongly condemn the act of reprimanding Tadiparva in public”
Many users have shared the video on both Facebook and other social media platforms such as X, few of which can be seen here and here.
Fact Check/ Verification
A reverse image search of a keyframe of the viral clip led us to a video, published on Sansad TV on August 1, 2022, titled, “Dr. Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar | Discussion under Rule 193 on price rise”. The video features the TMC MP discussing inflation and criticising the government’s Ujjwala Yojana. She also raises the question of whether people are expected to rely on raw vegetables for their meals.
At 12:35 minutes into the video, Dastidar can be seen scolding an opposition MP using the same exact words as seen in the viral video. However, the footage does not show Amit Shah in the frame, as seen in the viral clip.
After conducting a reverse image search on the keyframe of Amit Shah from the viral video, we found a similar footage of Amit Shah published on Sansad TV on February 7, 2022, with the caption, “Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement in Rajya Sabha over attack on convoy of Asaduddin Owaisi”.
The footage shows the Union Home Minister taking his seat at the end of his speech, in the exact same way as can be seen in the viral clip.
Conclusion
Thus it is clear that two separate videos have been edited together to create a false narrative.
Result: Altered Media
