Newschecker did a reverse-image search of the key frames of the viral video, which led us to multiple news reports of an incident in Bihar, where a teacher brutally assaulted a six-year-old boy till he fainted. The earliest instance of this news being reported was on July 4.
According to NDTV, which shared a screen grab of the video, “a teacher at a coaching centre in Bihar mercilessly thrashed a student after which he was admitted to a hospital. A video of the incident, which took place in Dhanarua block in state’s capital Patna, has been posted on social media where it is going viral.”
ANI tweeted about the incident on July 7, saying that the tuition teacher, Amarkant Kumar, was arrested for brutally thrashing a six-year-old student.
Newschecker did a keyword search of the term “Bihar classroom assault”, “Patna teacher student”, which led us to reports across various websites, including the Hindustan Times, Times of India, among others.
The Jalore Police, too, on Tuesday called out the viral video, tweeting that it was not related to the incident in Jalore and also warned of legal action against those sharing the misinformation.
