Newschecker ran a reverse image search, which led us to the same photo in a report published by the Clinton Herald on January 30, 2025, days before a United States military plane reportedly began deporting Indian migrants on February 3, 2025. A similar Independent report, dated January 30, 2025, can be seen here, stating that a US Air Force jet with migrants bound at their wrists and ankles departed Texas for Guatemala. The photo was credited to AP.
We looked up AP’s official account on Instagram, which uploaded the photo on January 31, 2025.
“A US Air Force jet with migrants bound at their wrists and ankles departed Texas for Guatemala on Thursday, carrying 80 deportees in another deportation flight that reflects a growing role for the armed forces in helping enforce immigration laws. The flight from Fort Bliss, an Army base in El Paso, was scheduled to take about seven hours, nearly twice as long as a direct route, because the military plane could not fly over Mexico, said US Border Patrol spokesman Orlando Marrero. Eight children were aboard…,” read the post, which confirmed that the viral photo does not show Indian migrants.
