Fact

A keyword search for “Afghanistan Cricket Team” and “Vande Mataram” on Google did not yield any credible report on any such incident.

On carefully analysing the viral footage, we observed that the chants of “Vande Mataram” were not in sync with the players’ lip movement.

We then looked up the keyframes of the footage on Google lens and found a YouTube video by Crickon, dated October 23, 2023, stating, “AFG Players in dressing room Chanting Allah -hu Akbar after beating Pakistan.” In the video, identical to the viral clip, the Afghan cricket team is heard saying “Allah-hu Akbar,” and not “Vande Mataram.”

Further, we noticed cricketer Mohammad Nabi holding the camera. Taking a clue, we skimmed through the social media accounts of the Afgan player, and found that the video was shared on his Instagram account in October, 2023. The video, too, featured the cricketers chanting “Allah-hu Akbar.”
