A disturbing video showing a man brutally thrashing an infant has gone viral on social media with users claiming the incident to be from Hyderabad. According to the claims, the man was seen venting his anger on his daughter as he had wanted a son.

Newschecker first ran a keyword search for “Hyderabad man thrashes daughter”, which did not lead us to any credible news reports about such an incident.
We then ran a reverse image search of keyframes of the video, which led us to this report from a Turkey-based media outlet, A Haber, dated December 2, 2021, featuring screengrabs of the viral video. According to the report, translated from Turkish, the man thrashed his three-month-old son when the mother had gone out, however, she had secretly filmed the assault before approaching the police and getting her son admitted in the hospital. The incident happened in Gaziantep, Turkey.
Similar media reports, seen here and here, confirmed that the incident happened in the Şahinbey district of Gaziantep with authorities stating that the father was arrested. “The abuse ended only when the mother finally returned home and snatched their baby from the hands of the beast. The child was taken to the hospital with cerebral haemorrhage, while his father was arrested,” according to the media reports.
