Claim

A voter destroys an EVM control unit during the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections, which took place in 88 parliamentary constituencies across 13 states and UTs on April 26.

The archived version of the tweet can be seen here. We received this video on our Whatsapp tipline (9999499044), too, requesting us to fact-check the claim that it happened in Karnataka, where 14 seats went to polls on Friday.

Fact

Newschecker ran a reverse image search of keyframes of the video, which led us to this Youtube video, uploaded on May 12, 2023 by News18, stating that a voter destroyed an EVM in Mysuru during the Karnataka Assembly elections.

A further led us to multiple news reports from May 2023, seen here and here, about the incident, stating that a man, who came to cast his vote during polling in the Chamundeshwari Assembly constituency on May 10 had damaged an EVM control unit. He was immediately taken into custody. Deputy commissioner of police (Law and Order) Muthuraj reportedly said that the man was suspected to be of unsound mind and a case had been booked under Section 84 of the IPC.
