A complete lockdown is in place across India to slow the spread of COVID-19. In the backdrop of the lockdown, videos of wild animals taking over the roads are surfacing on the internet. Among them, a set of pictures of a herd of Deer is doing rounds on social media claiming that these pictures are from Lake Club, Chandigarh.
We found that several blue tick Twitter handles, including one of Ruchit G Garg and Pradeep Dwivedi, also shared the viral pictures on their respective handles. Ruchit G Garg Tweet reads,”Lake club, Chandigarh this morning.”
Several readers sent the viral pictures to Newschecker’s WhatsApp helpline number for verification.
Fact Check
As we began fact-checking the claim, we found several users calling out pictures to not be from Chandigarh. One of the Twitter users and a journalist, Gagandeep Singh, Tweeted and said, “Some pictures are circulating on social media of Deer In Chandigarh. They are not of Lake Club Chandigarh. They are from Borivali Park, Mumbai”.
He also posted a video on his handle, clarifying the same.
Using reverse-image search on the Google search engine, we found a postdated article of a news website, Mumbai Mirror, which carried out the same viral images. The headline of the article published on April 2, 2020, reads, “The Jungle has come alive: Borivali National Park reclaims its lost glory as lockdown continues.”

While the nation-wide lockdown has brought life in the maximum city to a total standstill, the seizure of the bustle and human activities has brought life back into the city’s surviving green lung, the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP), popularly known as the Borvali National Park.
We found the same viral images uploaded on a website named ‘Free Press Journal.’ The headline reads, “Mother celebrates lockdown: Check out beautiful pictures of Sanjay Gandhi National Park.
