After India Beat Pak In Asia Cup, Old Video Of Pakistan Fans Breaking TV Sets Go Viral

Claim

Pakistani fans break TVs after their team lost to India in a close Asia Cup 2022 T20I match on Sunday.

Fact check/Verification 

Newschecker first ran a keyword search for the terms “Pakistan fans break TV”, “Asia cup TV break”, which led us to a Youtube video, dated June 16, 2019, that was a fuller version of the viral video.  The video was titled, “Pakistani Fans Break Tv | Pakistan Fans Angry Reaction | Pakistan losing to India Worldcup 2019 |”, however, what caught our attention was the fan in the video expressing his disappointment at Pakistan’s defeat. He was talking about Pakistan losing to a “weak” Bangladesh, which made us run another Google and Twitter search with the additional keyword of Bangladesh.

We then stumbled on keyframes of the video shared on Twitter on October 2, 2018, along with tweets on September 27, 2018, stating, “Fans break TV set after Pakistan’s humiliating loss to Bangladesh in Asia Cup”.  We looked up the match on ESPNcricinfo and found one where Bangladesh beat Pakistan by 37 runs on September 26, 2018. We also found a tweet by Pakistani sports journalist Ali Hasan, who tweeted the video on September 27, 2018, stating, “Its happened after #Pakistan team lost match against #Bangladesh in @ACCMedia1 Asia Cup.. @TheRealPCB @BCBtigers”. This confirms that even though the viral video is of irate Pakistan fans smashing a TV after their team’s loss, it was not an incident after Sunday’s clash.
