Indian business tycoon Gautam Adani, his nephew Sagar Adani along with six others, have been indicted in the US for their alleged involvement in an over $250 million scheme to bribe Indian government officials for securing contracts that affected the American investors too.
“During the alleged scheme, Adani Green raised more than $175 million from U.S. investors and Azure Power’s stock was traded on the New York Stock Exchange,” stated a press statement by US Securities and Exchange Commission. Notably, Cyril Cabanes, an executive of Azure Power Global Ltd is also an accused in the case.
Arrest warrants have been reportedly issued in the states for Adani and his nephew Sagar. The prosecutors also plan to hand those warrants to foreign law enforcement.
Soon after this news broke, an alleged photograph showing Adani with US Police officers went viral on social media platforms. X user @Hudhayfa_jalil shared the image claiming, “Adani arrested.” Multiple other users, such as this, this and this, shared the same photo while detailing the arrest warrant against the industrialist.

“Baseless”: Adani Group Denies Allegations
In a statement, the Adani Group spokesperson said, “The allegations made by the US Department of Justice and the US Securities and Exchange Commission against directors of Adani Green are baseless and denied. “
Adding, “As stated by the US Department of Justice itself, “the charges in the indictment are allegations and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.” All possible legal recourse will be sought.”
Fact Check/Verification
We did not find any credible report on the alleged arrest of the Indian businessman. On carefully analysing the photograph, we noticed that the faces of the people in the background were deformed, and an officer can be seen with six fingers.
We then looked up the image on multiple AI detection tools which concluded a high probability of it being a product of artificial intelligence.
Hive Moderation, for instance, detected a 99.9% probability that the image contains AI-generated or deepfake content. Another tool, Illuminarty calculated 95.1% probability of the image being generated via AI.
Sight Engine concluded a 99% likelihood of the alleged image of Adani being AI-generated. Another detection platform, AI or Not also indicated that the viral photograph was likely AI-generated
