Claim
First-look video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official residence.

Fact
Video is AI-generated.

Several social media users are sharing a 3-minute 27-second video of a sprawling palace, which was first posted by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on X on January 27, 2025, claiming that it is the first look of the “Rajmahal”, referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg. The archived versions of the posts can be seen here and here.

‘Sheesh Mahal’ vs ‘Rajmahal’ Row Intensifies

In the run-up to the February 5 Delhi elections, the AAP, in its counter to the BJP’s Sheesh Mahal jibe, had reportedly accused that the prime minister’s residence, which it dubs as ‘Rajmahal’, was built at a cost of ₹2,700 crore with carpets worth ₹300 crore and chandeliers worth ₹200 crore. The BJP and PM Narendra Modi have been using the Sheesh Mahal jibe against AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal for alleged lavish spending on the official bungalow where he lived when he was chief minister before quitting last year.  The AAP video is an apparent response to the BJP releasing a 14-minute video on January 26, 2025, showcasing the former residence of Kejriwal, located at 6, Flagstaff Road.

Fact Check

Newschecker noticed the overly glossy and unnatural texture of the visuals at several points in the video, hinting at it being AI-generated, along with the lack of detail in some parts.

Also, we took note of a couple of visual anomalies, which are indicators of AI-generated imagery:

  • Part of a shoe blending in with the background.
  • The kitchen-sink faucet morphing into different shapes between frames.

We then noticed the watermark of Sora, the AI video-generating model from OpenAI, at multiple points in the video in the bottom-right corner, further pointing towards the video being AI-generated.

Newschecker ran five clips from the video past Hive Moderation, an AI-content detection tool, which found them 98.1%-99.5% likely to contain AI-generated or deepfake content.
