A 10-second video recently went viral, purportedly from an episode of popular quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) where comedian Samay Raina, who appeared alongside Tanmay Bhat, cracks a joke that leaves host and actor Amitabh Bachchan laughing. The “daring joke”, however, caught social media’s attention with Raina shown in the video saying, “What is common between you [Bachchan] and a circle? Neither of you has a Rekha,” clearly referring to the veteran Bollywood actress.

Raina’s Show Lands In Controversy
Popular YouTube show India’s Got Latent, hosted by Raina, has landed in hot water after an episode featuring content creators Ranveer Allahbadia, Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh and Apoorva Makhija, resulting in an FIR against all the judges and host of the show, accusing them of promoting obscenity and sexually explicit content. The controversy erupted after Allahbadia posed an inappropriate question during the episode, drawing backlash from public figures and social media users alike.
Fact Check
Newschecker first ran a keyword search for “Samay Raina Rekha Amitabh Bachchan KBC”, which did not lead us to any report nor video clip of the viral interaction between Raina and Bachchan during the digital stars special KBC 16 episode, also featuring Bhuvan Bam and Kamiya Jani playing the game for charity.
Taking a cue from this, we went through the entire episode (Season 16, Episode 125), which was available on SonyLiv from January 31, 2025, but did not find any mention of Rekha nor the viral joke, further raising our doubts on whether the video was digitally manipulated.
We noticed the text reading “brain.rot.indian” on the clip that led us to an archived version of the viral video uploaded on the Instagram account whose bio read, “spreading legs & misinformation”, on February 2, which has since been deleted. We learnt that there was an ‘AI info’ label in the original Instagram post by @brain.rot.indian, pointing towards the use of AI. We found several AI-manipulated videos on the page, intended as humour and meme content.
We then ran the video past Hive Moderation, an AI content detection tool, which found the video “97.5% likely to contain AI-generated or deepfake content”. The Resemble Deepfake detector, too, determined the audio to be fake.
UPDATE ON 11/02/2025: We also reached out to Samay Raina’s team, who said the viral video is not authentic and that it has been altered.
