Bihar Assembly Election 2025
A screenshot claiming to show a report by The Wire is being circulated on social media. It alleges that the Election Commissioner of India revealed Prime Minister Narendra Modi “personally” instructed him and the Chief Election Commissioner to “add a million fake voters across various constituencies in Bihar.”

An archived version of one such post can be viewed here.
The viral screenshot shows a headline that is unusually long and appears in a different font compared to authentic The Wire articles. For instance, genuine articles on The Wire’s website, seen here and here, follow a uniform style that the viral image does not match.

A keyword search on The Wire’s official website yielded no article containing the alleged claim about PM Modi or the Election Commission. There are also no credible media reports corroborating such a statement or incident. Newschecker could not find any record of such a story in The Wire’s archives, social media feeds, or Google search index.
The viral screenshot spells the Election Commissioner’s name as Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sidhu, whereas the correct name is Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, as listed on the Election Commission of India’s official website. This error further confirms that the screenshot is fabricated.

We have reached out to The Wire for comment and will update this report once we receive a response.
