Chayan Kundu is a Senior Fact-Checking Editor at Newschecker, bringing over two decades of experience in journalism. A Chevening Fellow, he completed the Young Indian Broadcast Journalist Programme at Bournemouth University, UK, in 2007. Specializing in politics, business, crime, and human rights reporting, Chayan served as Deputy Editor at India Today for fifteen years and previously led the eastern region bureau for Zee News. He has broken several major stories, including the theft of Rabindranath Tagore’s Nobel Prize, and was among the first journalists on the ground in the Andaman Islands covering the 2004 tsunami disaster. Additionally, he has completed a Defence Correspondents Course conducted by the Ministry of Defence, further strengthening his expertise in investigative journalism.
Dipalkumar is a seasoned journalist with 15 years of excellence in investigative journalism, multimedia broadcasting, and editorial direction across digital, TV, social, and print media. With experience at BBC India and BBC Singapore, Dipal has authored and produced hundreds of impactful stories across multiple languages, covering current affairs, policy, business, economy, health, and the environment.
Ishwarachandra B.G. is an experienced journalist and fact-checker, having spent 15 years in Kannada media. Holding a Master’s degree in Communication and Journalism, he specializes in critical information analysis, source verification, and upholding journalistic integrity. A proven leader, he has successfully edited and guided specialized editorial teams at leading media organizations, ensuring accuracy and credibility in news reporting.
Since 2011, JP has been a media professional working as a reporter, editor, researcher and mass presenter. His mission to save society from the ill effects of disinformation led him to become a fact-checker. He has an MA in Political Science and Mass Communication.
A dedicated fact-checker, she holds a PG Diploma in Hindi Journalism from the Indian Institute of Mass Communication and a BA in Economics and History from Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi University. A former Teach for India Fellow, she honed her communication and critical thinking skills while teaching underprivileged children. Before joining Newschecker, she worked at the Press Information Bureau's Fact Check Unit, gaining insights into government communication. Passionate about storytelling, she strives to make information engaging and meaningful.
Kushel HM is a mechanical engineering graduate who found his true calling in the field of journalism. Passionate about tennis and films, Kushel made his foray into journalism as a sub-editor with the Hindustan Times, Mumbai, before joining Newschecker to tackle online misinformation.
Pankaj Menon is a fact-checker based out of Delhi who enjoys ‘digital sleuthing’ and calling out misinformation. He has completed his MA in International Relations from Madras University and has worked with organisations like NDTV, Times Now and Deccan Chronicle online in the past.
Prasad S Prabhu has been working as a journalist for the past 20 years. He started his journalism career as a full-time reporter with the famous Marathi daily Tarun Bharat Belgaum, after which he took up a stint as a freelance journalist. He has done BA in Marathi and MBA in Journalism and Media Management. The menace of fake news and its repercussions offline has made Prasad passionate about calling out fake news.
Believing in the notion of 'live and let live’, Preeti feels it's important to counter and check misinformation and prevent people from falling for propaganda, hoaxes, and fake information. She holds a Master’s degree in Mass Communication from Guru Jambeshawar University and has been a journalist & producer for 10 years.
Rajneil began his career in Google with Adwords Content Operations, moved to sales and then to Public Policy and Government Affairs. During his tenure at Google, he got a first-person view of content policy, community guidelines, product policy, and other public policy issues. Post his stint at Google, he founded a technology company before establishing Newschecker. He calls himself a product of the internet and mobile era and is determined to combat disinformation online. He looks after the day to day affairs and management of the organisation and does not participate in the editorial decisions of Newschecker.
A post-graduate in Mass Communication, Ram has an experience of 8 years in the field of Media. He has worked for radio, television, e-commerce. Appalled by the spread of fake news and disinformation, he found it both challenging and satisfying to bring out the truth and nullify the effects of fake news in society.
Raushan Thakur is a Hindi Fact-Checker with a strong academic background in Political Science, holding both graduate and postgraduate degrees in the subject. He has also completed a PG Diploma in TV Journalism. With three years of experience in fact-checking, he is deeply passionate about applied politics and journalism, striving to ensure accuracy and accountability in the media landscape.
Ruby leads editorial, operations and initiatives at Newschecker. In her former avatar at New Delhi Television (NDTV), India’s leading national news network, she was a news anchor, supervising producer and senior output editor. Her over a decade-long career encompasses ground-breaking reportage from conflict zones and reporting on terror incidents, election campaigns, and gender issues. Ruby is an Emmy-nominated producer and has handled both local and international assignments, including the coverage of Arab Spring in 2011, the US Presidential elections in 2016, and ground reportage on the Kashmir issue since 2009.
Runjay Kumar is a passionate fact-checker specializing in misinformation related to conflicts, politics, crime, and artificial intelligence (AI). With previous experience at Boom Live and The Indian Express, he brings a sharp investigative approach to his work. Armed with a Master’s degree in Mass Communication, he skillfully blends research, analysis, and storytelling to debunk false narratives.
Sabloo Thomas has worked as a special correspondent with the Deccan Chronicle from 2011 to December 2019. Post Deccan Chronicle, he freelanced for various websites and worked in the capacity of a translator as well (English to Malayalam and Malayalam to English). He’s also worked with the New Indian Express as a reporter, senior reporter, and principal correspondent. He joined Express in 2001.
A self taught social media maverick, Saurabh realised the power of social media early on and began following and analysing false narratives and ‘fake news’ even before he entering the field of fact checking professionally. He is fascinated with the visual medium, technology and politics and at Newschecker, where he leads social media strategy, he is a jack of all trades. With a burning desire to uncover the truth behind events that capture the minds of people and to make sense of the facts in the noisy world of social media , he fact checks misinformation in Hindi and English at Newschecker.
Shaminder started off his career as a freelance journalist for a consulting and research firm. He has been a Political Strategist and Media Manager. Before joining Newschecker, he worked with various reputed media agencies like Daily Post India, PTC News.
Tanujit covers Bangla and North-East for Newschecker. He holds a Master’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of Calcutta and has a decade of experience in the media industry, having worked with renowned organizations such as ABP Group, India Today Group, and Zee Media Group. He is passionate about news, fitness and travel.
Vasudha noticed the growing problem of mis/disinformation online after studying New Media at ACJ in Chennai and became interested in separating facts from fiction. She is interested in learning how global issues affect individuals on a micro level. Before joining Newschecker’s English team, she was working with Latestly.
Vijayalakshmi leads our Tamil team. She’s worked in the media industry for more than eight years. This includes her work as a senior correspondent for Times Now before joining Newschecker. She turned to fact-checking to create awareness around misinformation through her writing.
