Claim :

Amidst Delhi Violence, see how weapons are being smuggled by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS.

Verification:

Amid the  Delhi violence, a one-minute video is doing the rounds on social media which  claims that weapons are being smuggled by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and their allies.

We found that several users on Twitter and Facebook shared the viral message on their respective handles.

Meanwhile, Newschecker received the same viral message on its WhatsApp helpline number from a user asking us to verify the claim.

Fact Check:

Using reverse-image search on the Google search engine, we found a postdated article of  Hindi news website Amar Ujala. The article was published on 27 September 2019. The report had snippets the same as in the viral video. According to the report, “police arrested two people from Madhya Pradesh who were illegally supplying weapons hiding them in Ghee containers. The police recovered 26 pistols of .32 bore and magazines from the accused arrested.”

Furthermore, we broke down the video into multiple key frames and did a reverse image search on Yandex. We found one of the key frames which led us to ‘Navbharat Times’ report which carried the same video that was published on ‘YouTube’ on September 27, 2019. As per the description given in the video, “the special cell of Delhi police arrested two accused named Jatinder alias Jeetu and Raj Bahadur and recovered 26 pistols and magazines from them. Both arrested accused are residents of Madhya Pradesh and Agra respectively”.

Conclusion:

Newschecker’s team fact checked the claim and found that an old and unrelated video of weapon recovery is being shared on social media with a misleading claim.
