Fact

Newschecker ran a reverse image search of keyframes of the video, which led us to multiple news reports of the collapse of a residential building in south Florida in June 2021.

According to an NBC news report, dated June 25, 2021, a high-rise condo building partially collapsed near Miami Beach, leaving at least four people dead and 11 injured, officials said. The Guardian’s Youtube video, dated June 26, 2021, stated, “Video shows the moment an apartment block in Miami-Dade in Florida collapsed suddenly. Hundreds of people remain unaccounted for after the partial collapse of a beachside building and four people have been confirmed dead. Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava noted on Friday that rescue officials are still searching for survivors more than 24 hours after the building collapsed early on Thursday”. 

According to a New York Post report, dated June 24, 2021 and which featured the viral video, the surveillance camera footage shows the ocean-facing portion of the 12-story Champlain Towers South Condo in Surfside cascading into a pile of rubble as a massive cloud of dust fills the air.
